experience the experiment.

What if we wrote a “no” instead of a “yes.” Or, what if we added “slowly” in front of “kissed.” or, what if we said the boy’s favorite animal was an “elephant” instead of a “dog.” Do you see how the weight shifts? Do you feel how your perception immediately changes about a slow kiss versus a just a kiss or the boy who dreams of elephants as opposed to the boy whose favorite animal is the one he already knows?

These words are important. Maybe it’s time to rip them out of the books + set them free. Maybe these words can come out from where they’ve been hiding + find a place to land not on the bookshelf but on a wall.

Vuja De is an attempt to give words the weight they deserve by creating + curating short works of literature (poetry, essays + prose) to be displayed as visual art — typed + framed or in mural form.

The hope is that by experiencing the experiment spectators may begin to paint their own color in between the black + white lines.

We’ve all been there—experienced déjà vu—seen something new but felt we’d been there + done that before. Vuja de is the opposite—experiencing something familiar in a new way, a new light. The things we pass by are often the things that hold the most beauty—the power lines at sunset that run like veins through the heart of the sky, the back end of a restaurant with mismatched chairs + failed attempts at making cigarette butts into basketballs with littered misses all around the hoop of an ashtray, the shadows that cast a heavy weight on our homes + lean in, a single shoe missing its opposing force on the side of the road, a leaf as it falls from an unmoved tree. Vuja De is an artist’s attempt at flipping the switch, shifting perspectives, finding beauty in the mundane, observing + understanding through black + white word.

Standard protocol dictates the typed word to fall somewhere between 10 to 12 points. Twelve for your Times New Roman + 10 for your wider fonts like Palatino. In this respect, words are so small. They’re not only petite in size but in general they’re also trapped between the sheets, bound by covers that require movement to turn — fingers moving through ruffled edges + captivated eyes. So the challenge here is how to convince the reader that just one word might change everything.

Make it stand out.

Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.

I can’t take the credit.

that’s what he said.

wallflowers: ever think about getting a tattoo for your wall? if you’re serious, let’s do something you can’t just take down. no regrets.

 if   walls could talk.

hold up. we don’t need any ifs, ands or buts. walls can talk. Wallflowers aren’t shy. They’re bold. words are a big deal. let’s get loud.

the spoken word.

speak easy, my friends. grab a bud (& by that I mean brewski) but also bring a friend. poetry readings, story telling & writing workshops may be in your future. at least my Magic 8-ball says: signs point to yes.
